Ranking System

White belt

    All students start out as white belts. White belts are new students to the class, and typically are white belts for anywhere to 3 months up to one year. Arguably the most important belt in terms of material, a white belt will learn basic but rudimentary techniques.

Orange belt

    Orange belts are students that have demonstrated good technique in white belt material and were passed in a rank test. Orange belts learn a lot of new material.

Yellow belt

    Yellow belts are students that have shown good technique for both white and orange belt ranks.

Yellow belt (green stripe)

    Yellow belts with a green stripe, also called "green stripes" are students that are starting to go above and beyond most of the students that come through this school.

Green belt

    Green belt is where students are starting to get into the more advanced techniques. All kicks learned at this rank are jumping in the air, which includes jumping snap kick.

Green belt (blue stripe)

    Green belts with a blue stripe, also called "blue stripes" are students that are starting to see the big picture and realizing how much more there is to know.

Blue belt

    Blue belts are students that take all their techniques and make them better. This is where the student starts to see the philosophy of Taekwondo.

Blue belt (red stripe)

    Blue belts with a red stripe, also called "red stripes" are students that are getting new ideas on how to implement their techniques in better ways. Red stripes are starting to get into the "high degree mentality."

Red belt

    Red belts are students are getting into the realm of possiblity. Red belts are the ones that will not only teach in class, but lead the class.

Red belt (black stripe)

    Red belts with a black stripe, also called "black stripes" are almost to black belt, and have come further than 95% of students have that join the class.

Black belt (1st Dan)

    Black belts have shown mastery of all colored belt techniques. Black belt isn't the end of the road however. There are 9 more ranks (degrees) after 1st degree black belt. This is where the student changes to an assistant instructor, helping with the class. Black belts are products of hard work, blood, lots of sweat, and a few tears. Over the journey to black belt, a student will learn a lot of knowledge, and with great power comes great responsibility. Anyone can be a black belt, it just takes time, hard work, and dedication.
